Minimum experience (years)
Five years of proven leadership and management in an animal house core facility or equivalent setting
Education and field of expertise
PhD in Biology, Veterinary Sciences, or equivalent experience
Technical skills
Proven digital proficiency, namely on colony management software or equivalent
Advanced level of English and Spanish. Catalan will also be valued
Large experience in animal research
Understanding of transgenics, genome editing, and conditional knockout systems (strong background would be a plus)
Soft skills
Proven leadership and management experience in a core facility or equivalent setting, with the ability to communicate effectively both with animal care staff and with senior scientists.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the capacity to collaborate across disciplines.
Initiative, adaptability, and the ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Key responsibilities and duties
Contribute to the design and implementation of the new animal house, helping define workflows, infrastructure needs, and operational planning in coordination with institutional leadership and technical teams.
Provide guidance and oversight for animal care, breeding, and model generation activities, ensuring they align with institutional research priorities and operational capabilities.
Support the platform in exploring and adopting new technologies and approaches, including alternative models, to advance research and uphold the highest standards of animal welfare
Support the development and coordination of genome engineering strategies (e.g. CRISPR-based approaches), in collaboration with internal or external experts, to enable tailored disease models.
Ensure regulatory compliance and high standards of animal welfare, in accordance with Catalan, national, and European legislation.
Foster collaboration with other scientific platforms (e.g. imaging, histology, genomics) to facilitate integrated research workflows.
Support and mentor the facility team, encouraging a culture of professionalism, shared learning, and continuous improvement
Liaise with ethics and biosafety committees, contributing to the development and refinement of institutional procedures and protocols.
